Liverpool Mary

Name: Christina Louise Williamson
Age: 20
Representing: Liverpool
Studying: Hairdressing Student
Brief History & Aspirations:

Christina currently lives in Dungloe but she is originally from Liverpool. Currently Christina is studying Hair Dressing Communication and Barbering in Gweedore.

Christina moved to Donegal in 2008 with her family and attended the Rosses Community School from 2nd year until she completed her Leaving Certificate. Christina's family decided to move back to Liverpool during the time of her Leaving Certificate but Christina decided to stay as she enjoyed living in Dungloe so much! Christina is very proud to call Dungloe home as the scenery in Dungloe and the surrounding areal is truly spectacular!

Christina enjoys socialising and building friendships - no doubt she will make plenty of new friends, during her time as the Liverpool Mary.

Donegal Mary

Armagh Mary
Name: Aisling Martin
Age: 20
Representing: Coutny Donegal
Occupation/Studying: Hopes to study Hotel and Catering Management in GMIT. Currently works as a waitress in Caisleain Oir in Annagry
Brief History & Aspirations:

Aisling is a native of the small village of Kincasslagh, Co.Doengal and has lived there all her life.

Aisling plans to attend GMIT in September to study Hotel and Catering Management. Currently Aisling works as a waitress in Caisleain Oir in Annagry, to help aid her knowledge of Hotel business. Aisling really loves her job and enjoys getting to meet new people and hear new stories everyday!

Aisling is an avid music fan and will listen to everything from Johnny Cash to Iggy Aziela and all in between. Aisling plays the guitar, sings and occasionally tries herhand at writing songs as well!

Aisling is keen supporter of Gaelic football an support Naomh Muire and Glenfin due to family connections, with her Mum from the Lower Rosses and her Dad from Glenfin. Aisling was estatic in 2012 when her dream of watching Donegal winning an All-Ireland Football Final came true, with her cousin Frank McGlynn on the team.

Aisling grown up with the Mary from Dungloe Festival and always remembers as a little girl looking up to the Mary's. It's one of her favourite parts of the year because it's so full of Irish Culture, particulary on La Gaelach and continuous Community Involvement through-out the Festival.

Gweedore Mary

Occupation: Business Administrator with ICT Skills
Brief History & Aspirations:

Ciara is a native of Gweedore and is a keen walker, she frequently goes on long walks on the beach with her son who is four years old. Ciara is also enjoys swimming and cooking.

Ciara has just completed a Business Administrion and ICT Skills course at FAS gweedore and hopes to progress her studies by studying Hair & Beauty Technology in the coming year. Ciara hopes to combine her skills in Business and Hair & Beauty to develop a new career for herself.

New York Mary

Derry Mary Name: Aimée Sara Coyle
Age: 19
Representing: New York City
Occupation/Studying: Nursign Student at Mount Saint Mary College
Brief History & Aspirations:

Aimée is a 19 –year-old nursing major at Mount Saint Mary College, where she received a Presidential Scholarship. She is moving towards a Master’s Degree and a career as a nurse anesthetist.

Aimée participated in Irish Dancing and Muay Thai Kickboxing, as well as Tae-Kwon-Do, in which she received a black belt at the age of 10.

She is a first-generation Irish American; both of her parents immigrated to New York from Donegal: her mother is from Meenaleck and her father from Faoicnoic (Knockfola). Aimée made her first trip to Donegal at seven-weeks old and has been returning about two times every year.

The Mary from Dungloe festival has always been one of the highlights of her holidays since she can remember. She even won the Bonny Baby competition in Dungloe at the age of 3! Aimée has always wanted to participate in an event that represents her heritage. Two years ago, she even volunteered as a greeter at New York Mary Competition and truly saw what it was all about. This was an experience that encouraged her to take part in the Mary from Dungloe. Aimée is absolutely thrilled and honored to be representing New York in this year’s festival!

Kildare Mary

Donegal Mary
Name: Aoife Keegan
Age: 19
Representing: Kildare
Studying: Bachelor of Arts in Social Science at University College Dublin
Brief History & Aspirations:

Aoife has strong family connections with the town of Dungloe, as her mother was born in the Diamond and later moved to Glasgow with her family. Yet home was were the heart remained as many of her mum’s family returned to Dungloe after time spent both living and working in both Glasgow and Dublin.

Aoife works part-time in both Carton House and the DoubleTree aswell as studying Social Science in UCD but when she gets some free time, aOife spends it with her family and friends which includes several visits to her home from home Dungloe, to spend time with her grandmother, her sister, niece, nephews and several other extended family and friends.

Aoife is a sports fanatic, with a trophy cabinet decorated with four Dublin League medals and three All-Ireland final medals, which she achieved over the five years she spent co-captaining her school team Colaiste Ciaran to both All Ireland and regional success. Aoife also played club basketball for her local club Liffey Celtics and for her UCD college team where she achieved two regional medals at under age level. Aoife’s love of sport extends to the oval ball, as she is a huge Irish and Leinster rugby fan, she stared in the Leinster Rugby BOI 16th man advert. The hope for the future is to hopefully complete her Level 1 rugby-refereeing course and become a member of IRUPA, which is a union that concerns with the welfare and protection of players young and old involved in the sport.

Helping people with learning disabilities is a passion in the Keegan family, Aoife mum is the Chairperson for the North-Kildare Arch Club, which is a social club for people with learning disabilities and it has become second nature to Aoife herself. In 2007 Aoife was honored to have been awarded with a Leixlip Town, Civic Award for the volunteer work and fundraising she has done within the club and it is something which has fuelled her desired carrier choice, in the future Aoife wishes to obtain a masters in political geography and social work and work in the area of national and international social work or international social policy.

Aoife has attended the festival since she was no size at all and some of her most fond memories of Dungloe surround the Mary from Dungloe festival, like when she came second in “It’s a Knockout” competition last year with the team from Tir Conaill pub, or sheer stage fright she got during her first Little Miss Mary competition at the tender age of five! Lets hope she has out grown her stage fright and makes this festival a memorable one for Kildare and Dungloe alike.

Sydney Mary

Inishowen Mary
Name: Kate Lindsay
Age: 19
Representing: Sydney
Occupation/Studying: Student of Renewable Energy Engineering and Commerce at the University of New South Wales in Sydney
Brief History & Aspirations:

Kate was chosen as the 2014 Mary from Dungloe!!

Kate is this years representative from Sydney and has strong Irish connections as her mother, Jane Daly, was born in Cork and moved to Australia when she married my father. Kate is the eldest of 3 siblings; her sister Michelle is 16; her brother James, 13, was adopted from South Korea in 2000.

Kate attended Loreto Kirribilli from Kindergarten to year 12, and loved it! Community service, drama festival, dance night and music festival opportunities added to the richness of her academic life. Kate currently studies Renewable Energy Engineering and Commerce at the University of New South Wales in Sydney. She is very interested in the environment and sustainability, and hopes to be involved in the education of the public on its importance after she graduates.

Dancing is a big part of her life, having done ballet since age 3 and later learning Jazz and contemporary styles. Thus there have been numerous concerts and eisteddfods over the years! Sailing is an activity that the Lindsay family have enjoyed from birth; therefore she joined the youth sailing program at her local club at aged 12 and have become very involved in both fleet and match racing.

Kate's personal hobbies are arts and crafts, gardening, reading, walking, listening to music, cooking and chatting.

Glasgow Mary

Dungloe Mary
Name: Grace Sweeney
Age: 27
Representing: Glasgow
Occupation/Studying: Completed her Degree in Nursing
Brief History & Aspirations:

Grace has a strong family connection with the Rosses as both parents were born and brought up in the area.  Her mum is from Derrynamansher and her Dad is from Meenacross.  She has attended the festival every year as she always returns home to Meenacross and Dungloe to visit family and friends at this time.

She has embraced her Irish heritage and culture her entire life having been raised steeped in the Donegal Community of Glasgow’s Southside. 

She attended Irish Dancing classes from a young age and this inspired her to complete a professional qualification in Stage Dance and Musical Theatre.  She has used these skills in a variety of performances with amateur theatre groups at Glasgow’s Theatre Royal.  She also uses her musical talent to celebrate her love of Irish music as she sings on regular basis by invitation of local Irish bands in Glasgow’s Southside.

Having completed her dance studies she moved to Galway for a year to work in a Nursery with preschool children.  On her return to Glasgow she embarked on a Nursing Degree course at Glasgow Caledonian University which she has recently completed.

She loves working with people, especially the elderly, and she has found that my love of my Irish culture and heritage has provided her with invaluable insight in offering care and support to the patients she has worked with over the past few years.  She hopes to obtain a full time Nursing position and continue to offer quality care and support to people in their later years of life.

Name: Kelly Devine
Age: 24
Representing: Philadelphia
Occupation/Studying: Public Relations and Social Media Account Coordinator for Neff Associates
Brief History & Aspirations:

Kelly Devine is from Lansdale, Philadelphia butis currently living in Manayunk, Philadelphia, just 10 minutes outside of Philadelphia. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Food Marketing with a concentration in Public Relations from St. Joseph's University in 2012.

Kelly teaches and dances at the Coyle School of Irish Dance. She also enjoys running, spending time with her family, including her four adorable nephews, and learning to bake and cook.

Some of her achievements include the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency Scholarship, the 2012 Regis Scholarship, the 2012 Food Marketing Scholarship, reaching Open Champion Level in competitive Irish Dancing, and performing at the world, national, and regional levels in Irish Dancing. She is a big advocate for the American Cancer Society especially Relays For Life. She helped raise over $60,000 dollars this year for the Saint Joseph's University Relay For Life.

Kelly is currently working as the Public Relations and Social Media Account Coordinator for Neff Associates at 3rd and Market Street in Philadelphia. She hopes to one day be a Public Relations director/CEO of a PR or event planning company.

Her family roots in Ireland are in Counties Cork, Clare, Dublin, Dungloe and Monaghan.

Edinburgh Mary
Name: Maggie Molloy
Age: 24
Representing: London
Occupation/Studying: Nanny
Brief History & Aspirations:

Maggie is very proud of her Irish roots, her Mother is from Cork and her Father from Dungloe, a big part of her childhood was made up of spending summers in Dungloe for the festival and visiting family and friends she have made over the years.

Maggie graduated from Bournemouth University with a degree in Advertising with Marketing Communications in 2012 but have since moved back to London and discovered her passion for working with children. Currently Maggie is working as a Nanny with hope to persue a career as a Primary School Teacher and teach abroad. As a creative person herself, she is keen to help inspire young people to embrace their creativity and develop their own personality during their early years. Maggie also works weekends as a supervisor in a local shop.

When she is not working Maggie enjoys swimming, knitting, spending time with my family and attending comedy and theatre shows around London, Maggie also has a weakness for all things floral! She blames her Irish upbringing for her caring nature and sense of family which has had a huge impact into shaping Maggie into the person she is today. Maggie always feels that one thing we can do everyday it is to find joy in the little things, as Dolly Parton says “If you see someone without a smile give them yours.” Its the least we can do!

Maggie is very proud to be representing London in this years’ festival and she looks forward to meeting new people and having a wonderful experience.

Gaeltacht Mary

Rosses Mary
Name: Rosie Ní Ghairbhigh
Age: 18
Representing: The Gaeltacht
Occupation/Studying: She recently sat the Leaving Certificate examinations and hopes to study Performance in NUI Galway along with Psychology, French and Journalism.
Brief History & Aspirations:

Rosie lives in Gweedore, Co. Donegal and recently sat the Leaving Certificate examinations and hopes to study Performance in NUI Galway along with Psychology, French and Journalism. She is very interested in drama and music and has won multiple All-Irelands in drama.

Rosie loves languages and is very proud to be fluent in Gaeilge and representing the Gaeltacht in this year's competition. She would love to continue to promote the Irish language by establishing a drama school in Irish for children in the future.

Edinburgh Mary

Glasgow Mary
Name: Eileen McGuinness
Age: 24
Representing: Edinburgh
Occupation: BSkyB Technical Advisor
Brief History & Aspirations:

Eileen was born and lives in Glasgow and until recently was working at Edinburgh Airport but currently works for Sky as a technical Advisor in their Glasgow Offices. “I loved Working at Edinburgh Airport, It was such lovely place to Work with the nicest people. I always hoped to see a few a Celebrities coming threw at times, I Prayed for the day I would run into Gerard Butler or Cristiano Ronaldo but alas it didn’t happen…Yet" “I’m currently Working for Sky and love helping people in anyway I can, its very rewarding knowing you can make things a little easier for people in anyway possible,” I won top advisor this year which was a really great personal achievement for me and also a great highlight since working for Sky was sitting on the Iron Throne from Sky Atlantic’s Game of Thrones Massively popular Series, It was brought to Our Offices for Promotional events and I couldn’t help myself !”

Eileen’s Interests from Youth to Present Day include Irish Dancing, and Cross Country running which she has received numerous medals for, Dance /Irish Music, bike riding and travelling to many different Countrys and getting to know their Cultures.

Eileen’s Family Come from Both Donegal and Glasgow. Her Grandfather came from Killybegs and Grandmother was from Burtonport. Eileen’s Father James went to School in Burtonport and eventually left for Clydebank in Glasgow where he met his wife Erna who is from the small Village of Lennox town.

From a Young age Eileen spent most her summers growing up in Donegal and in Dungloe and Burtonport in particular. “ I loved coming here to Dungloe, I will always consider it my Hometown. It was always a truly amazing time, being with my family and friends growing up here”.We travelled across so much maybe 6 times a year. I loved the beaches here in the long Donegal Summers in Arlands, Carrickfinn and Dooey. I have great memories of the Festival when I was younger, we never missed a Festival growing up, we would travel so often to Ireland I would never lose touch with anyone and I felt like I was never away from either Donegal or Glasgow, and to me it was perfect”.

“During the Festival years ago when I was a baby I ended up winning a bonny baby contest, my mum still has a little trophy I won at home with other great memories we have of Donegal. I’m really overwhelmed and so happy to be representing Edinburgh this Year. The support I have received from The Rosses, Glasgow and Edinburgh has been sensational and I can't thank everyone enough for all their kind messages and well wishes. When growing up my Father always wanted me to participate in the Mary from Dungloe and to do it now is a dream come true and im sure he will be looking down on me and giving me all the support he can and win or lose I hope I will do him and my family proud”.

Glasgow Mary

Gaeltacht Mary
Name: Rosie Donaghy
Age: 25
Representing: Glasgow
Occupation/Studying: Welfare officer & owns her own online Fashion Business
Brief History & Aspirations:

Rosie studied Tax Management in Glasgow before becoming a Welfare Officer, advising and acting as an advocate for those needing support. She is deeply passionate about her role, and in the future she would like to continue supporting people back into employment and influence policy at a strategic level.

She is also a very creative person, who runs her own small online fashion business, selling fashion pieces and jewellery. Many of her items she creates herself, and loves being able to experiment with different designs.

With a great interest in singing and a passion for country music, in particular the Irish country music scene, she loves going to see her favourite artists such as Nathan Carter, Lisa McHugh and Derek Ryan.

Proud of her Irish heritage, Rosie has strong connections in Donegal, with family hailing from Buncrana and Gweedore. She loves visiting her family and friends here and has attended the festival since she was a young girl, with cousin Aisling Friel winning in 2003. She is honoured to be representing Glasgow and the Glasgow Irish community at this years festival.

London Mary
Name: Kelly Moy
Age: 21
Representing: Letterkenny
Occupation/Studying: 3rd Year of Student of Honours Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Science and Social Studies
Brief History & Aspirations:

Kelly is representing the town of Dungloe in this years Festival and as she is a firm believer in giving 100% into everything she does! Kelly truly believes you get out of anything what you put in and through this motto shei hopes to make the town of Dungloe proud!

Kelly went to primary school at Acres National School, Burtonport and then attended the Rosses Community School, Dungloe and really enjoyed her years there. Kelly is currently in her 3rd year of studying a Bsc Bachelor of Honours Degree in Health Science and Social Studies at Letterkenny Institute of Technology. Kelly really enjoys her studies as it is such a rewarding and highly satisfying course.

Kelly also loves travelling and experiencing different cultures and ways of life, she love meeting new people! Kelly is a fan of the Great Outdoors and enjoys rock climbing, swimming and playing volleyball, she is a qualified volleyball couch and through this she was the co-founder and chairperson of the first ever volleyball club for children in the area of Dungloe and following this Kelly was awarded an exceptional leaders award by the volleyball association of ireland!

Kelly loves working with people and love doing volunteer work, she is a certified age action volunteer at College and she teaches elderly citizens basic computer skills. She has also worked with the Irish wheelchair association and the Little Angels School for special children, which she loved and hopes to go back to Little Angels School and help out at their Summer Camp.

Kelly hopes to continue her studies after completion of her current course and hopefully become a childrens nurse or to teach special education. She also hopes to travel with her qualification and volunteer and work abroad as it would be a great experience.

Monaghan Mary

New York Mary
Name: Niamh McMahon
Age: 21
Representing: Monaghan
Occupation/Studying: Graduate from Glasgow Caledonian University in Occupational Therapy
Brief History & Aspirations:

Monaghan Mary Niamh has recently graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University where she spent four years studying Occupational Therapy.

Throughout Niamh’s younger years she attended the festival as she holidayed in Donegal with the family. She has fond memories of the Marys and the great buzz around the festival. She had always dreamed that when old enough she would take part in the festival.

During Niamh’s time in Glasgow she became part of Tir Connail Harps Ladies football team. The club has a strong Donegal Glasgow community and many people spoke fondly of the festival which reminded Niamh of her childhood dream. Niamh is a big fan of Country music and although she may not be the best jiver, she regularly attends the local dances in Monaghan.

Niamh is the Irish Ambassador for St.Jeromes Orphanage in Kenya, and is responsible for any issues that may occur in Ireland. At Christmas the children’s Christmas presents needed to get from Scotland to Dublin. Niamh managed to get them from Glasgow to Monaghan with a friend and onto Dublin making the flight out to Kenya. Niamh volunteered in her local Arch Club in Monaghan during her school years and it was great for her to return as Monaghan Mary.

She has also worked on a part-time basis in Carrickmacross Butchers and Deli throughout her school and college years. She enjoys her time in the shop as she meets many friendly customers. This summer she is back in the Butchers, as well as helping her father out with his business. Niamh hopes to find a job as an Occupational Therapist soon and would ideally like to work with individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Niamh cannot wait to return to Dungloe to meet new people and enjoy the festival once again!

Philadelphia Mary

Philadelphia Mary Name: Meghan Davis
Age: 26
Representing: Philadelphia
Occupation/Studying:Music Graduate
Brief History & Aspirations:

Meghan is a graduate of The Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins and The Boyer College of Music at Temple. Meghan holds two degrees, in Harp & Vocal Performance and also a Master's in Vocal Performance. Meghan has received many pretigious awards for her Vocal Performances!

Meghan currently works as a Harpist and Vocalist, Private Music Teacher and Church Musician.

This busy lady still finds time for lots of hobbies including; tennis, cycling, baking and of course supporting the Phillies!

She is very proud of her Irish roots, mum is from Cork and Dad is from Mayo. She is delighted and honoured to be representing Phillidelphia, and is looking forward to the whole experience.

Meghan is our winning 2012 Mary from Dungloe. Meghan epitomises what it is to be a Mary from Dungloe: Beautiful, Charming, Graceful & Talented. She will with no doubt be a wonderful ambassador for Dungloe.

Brief History & Aspirations:

Marie-Claire is currently studying Law with French at University of Ulster. She loves travelling, and learning about different cultures and languages. She is a part of the 'Open your Mind' group in her University which promotes mental health awareness in students and young people.

A member of a cheerleading team, Marie-Claire also loves socialising, meeting new people and new challenges! She loves the Mary from Dungloe International festival and can't wait for all the fun it's sure to bring!
